  • Disney prosthetics

Disney is backing a startup that offers 3D printed prosthetic for children at the very reasonable price of $500. Iron Man, Elsa from Frozen, and a Star Wars themed one is up for grabs. Engadget writes:

Open Bionics is part of the 2015 Disney Accelerator programme, which explains its choice of characters. Still, the ‘House of Mouse’ has been gracious enough to provide royalty free licenses, as well as time and input from its creative teams. The three versions are fitted with LED lights and, in the case of the Iron Man model, a vibration motor for when the user wants to fire a “rocket.”

Sure, the startup is part of a Disney project, but it’s still pretty darn great for kids. Prosthetic limbs are usually very expensive.

  • Fusion won't bash Disney

Always consider who’s paying the bills; Fusion won’t bash Disney according to New York Times:

Disney and Univision supplied Fusion with an additional $30 million in financing recently, according to a person involved with the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity. But the cultures of the companies and Fusion have already clashed. For instance, according to two senior Fusion staff members, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Disney put the organization on notice that it would not take kindly to coverage that might dent its standing with consumers. The warning came after Fusion published several stories based on documents that hackers stole from Sony.

  • Disney pulls Star Wars games, screws players

Disney has pulled two Star Wars games from the App Store and Google Play. Tiny Death Star and Star Wars: Assault Team are no more, no big loss if you ask me, but players of these titles are more than allowed to throw feces at the company and its decision. These titles are monetized from in-app purchases, and Disney pulling them like this makes them all but unplayable in the long run. Players who’ve invested money in gameplay are being screwed over.

This isn’t the first time such things happen, nor will it be the last. Always online, freemium based titles are available at the mercy of the publisher, which is a good a reason as ever to be wary of those types of games. In the long run, this is a problem for the App Store’s reliability.

Oh, and you should probably not trust Disney with your in-app purchases anymore. Assholes.

Man tänker fel. Ska biografen överleva så måste man erbjuda en annan upplevelse. Ni kan inte konkurrera med DVD, blu-ray eller nedladdning på lika villkor – bioupplevelsen måste vara något annat. (more…)
