  • Live where you want to be

    Matt Mullenweg, preaching it:

Let people live someplace remarkable instead of paying $2,800 a month for a mediocre one bedroom rental in San Francisco. Or don’t, and let companies like Automattic and Github hire the best and brightest and let them live and work wherever they like.

  • What are you doing about it?

Back at work yet? Have you had a nice summer vacation? Maybe your company has kickoffs or you go off at some conference or other, visit a retreat to regain focus if you’re at boss level. Or whatever, the point is that work is the primary focus again. For you, and for everyone else, not counting the unemployed of course, although they’re probably pretty work-focused too.

It is time to be productive, to re-enter the factory, to grind. Mouths to feed, bills to pay, bad habits to maintain, am I right?

But while you’re getting back to full throttle work mode, take a moment to contemplate what you’re doing. Is it what you want, are you happy doing what you do, and are you enjoying yourself?

If not, what are you doing about it?

Worth a thought, and now is as good as ever.

  • Om Malik's re-birthday

Take it from someone who’s been down the rabbit hole, you should read Om Malik’s post about his re-birthday. That is, the day shit happened and he had to revaluate what was important. We all should experience such a day, sans the shit part obviously, but I’m afraid most of us are too thickheaded to really understand without something hitting us hard from behind.

So there, do yourself a favor for the new year and take a breather, think things through, and get out of the negative maelstrom parts of whatever kind of life you’re living. We all have that, we all need to rethink and redo the parts of our lives that just aren’t working out. Work, relationships, whatever – it is all the same and it adds to what could be a problem.

Happy re-birthday Om. I know, I know, I’m a bit late but it is the thought that counts, right?
