I’m really happy to see child themes in the wordpress.org theme directory. They need proper labeling though, and a link to the parent theme, otherwise users will be confused. After all, a child theme won’t work without its parent! Here’s Mazeld, of Photomatt fame, which is now a child theme using Twenty Ten.

Post Formats, is this really a good idea?
WordPress 3.1 doesn’t just add an admin bar, among the new features are also Post Formats. This is basically a new way to sort content and it does indeed solve a lot of small problems. The Post Formats are:
- aside (for short asides)
- gallery (for post being just galleries)
- link (for post that are really links elsewhere)
- image (for posts that are really images)
- quote (for quotations)
- status (for short status updates)
- video (for posts that are really video embeds)
- audio (for posts that are really audio)
- chat (for chat transcripts)
Now, obviously you can have anything in any post with any Post Format. They are meant for the things above (sort of, I’ve kept it simple), but you’re not limited to it. This is your content. (more…)

The best thing about the new WordPress admin bar
One of the new features in WordPress 3.1 (out in RC3 now, help test it if you’re into that sort of thing) is the admin bar. If you’re a wordpress.com user you’ll no doubt recognize it.
Want to know what’s the best part with this new addition? (more…)

Today’s find, courtesy of @jocke, is this extremely handy wiki with information on mobile data plans and whatnot when abroad. I needed that.

Squa.re hates me so much
I have on idea what Squa.re is, but I saw the link somewhere and I wanted to check it out. What do I get? Well, this:
I’m using the latest version of Chrome, true. I’ve got Safari and Firefox on my computer, I could fire up them but I won’t. This is how you make the web go backwards.
I won’t be a part of it.

Tobias Billström och #wikileaks är humor på hög nivå
Deja vu här va? Tobias Billström behöver mediatränas, och kanske lära sig lyssna på frågan också.

WordPress 3.1 RC3 out now, makes changes
I’m happy to see that the third release candidate for WordPress 3.1 is out, but less thrilled about the amount of changes there are between RC2 and RC3. Probably the right call and all that, but this is a wee bit much to be altering in this phase in my opinion. I hope this means that we’ll see an RC4 version as well to avoid a point 1 bugfix release. Get RC3 here.

Buying you off with free stuff next week, is that OK?
Sorry for the slight delay in getting TDH.me up to speed, I have just wrapped up two major deadlines and need a little breather. Just to make me feel a little better about this, I’ll release a free WordPress theme or two next week, how’s that?

The advance copies of Smashing WordPress Themes looks great, I'm told
I spoke to the big boss man editor at my publisher (Wiley) today, and he told me that the advance copy of Smashing WordPress Themes looked great. Apparently there are some on my way here right now. Can’t wait! It’s out next week in the US.

My take on the future of WordPress themes, 2011 edition
The guys a WPCandy didn’t think to include me in their future of WordPress themes post, which says something about how active I’ve been in the WordPress community the past year or so I guess. After all, I’ve just sold tens of thousands of WordPress books and release free themes and…
Nah, just kidding. I’m pretty low key and I like to keep it that way. The post sparked my mind though, so let me give you my thoughts about the future of WordPress themes this year. (more…)
