  • Fredagsnöje: Två lanseringar signerade Odd Alice idag

    Jag brukar verkligen avråda från lanseringar på fredagar, det riskerar nämligen bli krångligt och kostsamt om något skulle gå åt pipan. Ibland blir det så ändå, och idag blev det inte en utan två lanseringar signerade Odd Alice. Båda sajterna bygger på WordPress (föga förvånande) och är på många sätt och vis varandras motpoler.   • Så stänger du av autokorrigeringen i Lion

    Apples nya operativsystem till Mac, Lion, har autokorrigering av ord, inspirerad av iOS. Det kanske vissa uppskattar, men personligen får jag spader när operativsystemet gör om “pixlar” till “pillar” och delar på engelska ord som ska vara ihopskrivna för att jag faktiskt sitter och pillar (!) med kod.

  • Reddit thanks you for not using Adblock

    There are a lot of ways to block out ads these days, and while I certainly understand why one might do that, I’m not comfortable with using Adblock or similar myself. The sites I visit are free to read, and that means that usually means that advertising are their income. Today’s ad delivery software is smart enough to make sure that the advertisers won’t have to pay if the ad isn’t loaded, so users of Adblock won’t generate any ad revenue for the site. That doesn’t feel right to me, so I’m not using Adblock.

    Reddit gets this, so they say thank you to users that view the ads. A nice approach I think, and also one that further builds the community.

  • Skånebloggars bloggtjänst slår igen

    Skär i hjärtat, men det gick inte att rädda Skånebloggar efter att tidningarna lade ner projektet. Bloggtjänsten stänger den 20 oktober.

  • Vinyl låter bättre

    Vad sägs om att avsluta veckan med att läsa om varför påståendet att vinyl låter bättre är sant? Medan ni gör det så lägger jag på en platta…

  • Because it sounds better

    I’m a hypocrite and I admit it, at least on principle. You see, I have no problem whatsoever to drop the famous “it just sounds better” explanation when it comes to music and vinyls. Because it does, it sounds better. The sound is just so much more alive, more real, more natural.

    Which is bullshit, at least most of the time these days. Because although you can digitally remaster any album and claim that it is the best sounding version yet, that is part of the problem. Classic albums from the vinyl years were recorded and mastered for the format, not for super-crisp CDs or hardly compressed MP3s. (more…)

  • Min nya Twitter-strategi

    Twitter är en tidstjuv utan like, ett prokrastineringsmonster utan like, och ren ondska för produktiviteten. Det är också en enorm resurs och stundtals väldigt givande, vilket är varför jag är hyfsat aktiv på såväl svenska (@tdhse) som engelska (@tdh). Samtidigt måste jag faktiskt få något gjort, och det rimmar illa med att vara överaktiv twittrare.

    Den senaste veckan (lite drygt) har jag testat ett nytt sätt att twittra på. Resultatet har varit positivt, jag har fått betydligt mer gjort och jobbat mer koncentrerat, för Twitter har inte stört mig. När jag behövt tjänsten, för att fråga om hjälp eller bara som avkoppling, så har jag gjort det och därmed har jag inte känt någon abstinens eller ens saknad under dagarna. (more…)

    Facebooks nya timeline är helt logisk, en plats för dig att presentera dig själv och vad du gör. Men det enda jag kan tänka på när jag ser det här är att det är Lunarstorm 2.0.

  • Ledarnas kampanj är en bra idé – men genomförandet är obegripligt klumpigt

    Ledarnas VD-kampanj, som Nikke skrivit bra om, är obegripligt klumpigt genomförd vilket är synd för idén i sig är det inget större fel på. Byråerna bakom gör inte direkt saken bättre i Resumés kommentarsfält. Se det som en lektion i hur man slänger 8 miljoner kronor i sjön på grund av okunskap.

    Adobe wants us to believe that Flash 11 and Air 3 will give us “console-quality games”. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • You shouldn't run too many plugins and here's why

    Ryan Imel on WPCandy is upset about people who are advising WordPress users against running a lot of plugins. He goes on a little rant, which you should read, because it definitely has a point.

    What does matter is the nature of the plugins themselves. If the plugins are properly coded and serve their individual purposes well, then it shouldn’t matter even if you have one hundred of them active. If the plugins are big, bloated, and poorly written then you could run into a problem with only two active. The key here is the number of active plugins is unimportant; only the quality matters.

    This is true, although I think you have a problem if you’re running 100 plugins, but that’s another matter.

    The thing to take away here is that you can run how many plugins you want, just make sure they are well-written, then you won’t have any problems.

    With that said, I still say you should keep your plugin count down. (more…)
