Midsummer

Anyone who’s ever visited Sweden during this time of year knows that Midsummer is a big thing here. There are pickled herring and snaps, dancing around hedonistic symbols, flowers everywhere, and partying into the night.

I’m skipping that altogether this year. Instead, I’ll spend today walking what I hope is something of a ghost town. Stockholm empties during holidays like this, people are fleeing the city to be in house gardens or on islands in the archipelago, celebrating with friends and family. Hopefully that’s true today, but the dreary weather might’ve made people stay home.

No matter. I’m going to bring my camera and walk the streets for a bit, on my own, hopefully all alone.
