Make your WordPress themes and plugins translatable
This week’s column for WPMU.org is about how themes and plugins should be translatable, which isn’t that hard to achieve really. The piece have gotten some criticism for me sticking with more general terms than “internationalization” and “localization”, but I stand by my choice: This way it is more easily read by people who aren’t familiar with localization whatsoever. It’s not an attack on developers either, as I trust my suggestions on how we can all help each other should prove.

My debut column on WPMU.org tells you to stop being an asshole
I never was one to thread around lightly, so when James Farmer and his cohorts had a brief lapse of judgment and gave me the keys to WPMU.org, I knew I had to come out swinging. Published: WordPress theme article in Web Designer 184
Every now and then I do a bit of freelance writing. I try to keep it down to 1-2 articles per month, so that I can focus on books and projects, but this Summer I intend to spread myself all over the place. Which is to say you’ll find my words on other blogs, in magazines, and in ebooks as well.
The first one I’d like to tell you about is my article about WordPress themes in Web Designer issue 184. You might want to check out the preview post on the magazine’s site.

The Blog Herald and why I left
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about The Blog Herald recently, so I feel I need to clear the air on that matter. I used to be the editor of said site, but as of December 1st 2009, I’m not. This is not due to any controversy, me falling out with the owners of the site (being Splashpress Media, which I’ve always had and still have a great relationship with). Neither is it because of Paul “Scrivs” Scrivens appointment as the new publisher of the Splashpress network, I’ve only got good things to say about the guy in fact, and he knows it.
In a time of transition, it made sense to take a few steps back. The network was changing, and The Blog Herald with it, and I felt that the plans that me and Splashpress had for the site was a bit obsolete because of this. (more…)
