Kihon is a simple blog theme for WordPress. It was originally made as instructional content, and was later featured in Web Designer UK #203 as part of a feature article about how to create your own WordPress themes. The theme name is Japanese and means “simple” (fuzzy translation).
Releases
You can download the Kihon theme free of charge. It is licensed under GPL, so have fun with it.
Legacy releases (zip):
- ↓ 1.3 | Kihon branding on the login screen
- ↓ 1.2 | New theme settings

- ↓ 1.0 | Initial release
Planned features
I’m afraid there are no estimated development time on these features, but sooner or later I’ll add the following to Kihon:
- Internationalize the theme. The only reason the theme wasn’t internationalized to begin with was because it would’ve been a bit too much for educational purposes.
- Additional widget areas. Not too many, but a bit more control here.
- Footer menu.
- Support for hierarchical menus (although I loathe them).
- Mobile hamburger menu with JavaScript.
- Support for featured images.
- Editor styles and whatnot.
- Support for retina header image.
- Donate to theme author solution, because why not?
- Clean-up here and there. Always.
