Det är härligt att se att tokigt försenade WordPress 3.1 äntligen släppts. Uppdatera duktigt nu, alla! För eboken Webbpublicering med WordPress betyder det mycket, mer om det här.

WordPress 3.1 finally released, is good
I’m happy to see WordPress 3.1 finally hitting the ‘net. Make sure you update. A bit surprised about the Django/Reinhardt naming issue, of course someone would react to an open source software using Django when there’s already a Django out there, but hey, these things happen and no harm done. Props to the WordPress developers, this is a good one!

It's iPad week on TDH.me
I’ve been thinking a lot on how the iPad can change our behavior, and these last few days I’ve reached conclusions for business and productivity use. Last night it sparked a bunch of drafts (on my iPad of course), so this week will be iPad week, or something like that.

Skriv varje dag

(more…)

Write every day
Want to become a good writer? Want to battle writer’s block? Want a serious challenge?
Then write every day.
I’m not talking about twittering or posting comments on blogs, I’m talking about original pieces. If you want to be an online journalist (aka “blogger”), then you should blog every day. If you want to write fiction, then write some fiction every day.
It doesn’t have to be much. A lot of it might not be good. The whole idea is to get used to writing, to do it in regular intervals, and to make it less of an obstacle when you really need to perform.
So write every day if you want to be a writer.

My next book is not in the Smashing series
Here’s a possibly interesting little tidbit that I posted on my Facebook page yesterday: My next book is not in the Smashing series, as the previous have been. It is, however, in full color and published by the same publisher, which would be Wiley.

The Qawker theme for WordPress
Are you in love with the new Gawker Media network redesign, present on sites like Gawker and Gizmodo? Well, now you can rip off that look for your WordPress site, just a theme install away.
Nice work by Sahas Katta, although more as a demo rather than an theme people should actually use in my opinion. If nothing else but for the post links and all that.
Incidentally, the jury (which is me) is still out on the Gawker redesign. I’ve written three posts, and scrapped them all. Hard one to wrap my head around, it’s either brilliant or an epic misfire by Denton & Co.

WordPress 3.1 RC5 around the corner
It would seem as if WordPress 3.1 will get a fifth release candidate, because that’s what my admin footer says right now anyway. Let’s hope it’s the last one. Update: This is probably a sneaky release to pinpoint an issue, sharp 3.1 is around the corner says @nacin.

Have you reviewed my books? Send me the link!
Have you reviewed, or seen a review, of any of my books? As I’m writing this, that would be either Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog (the first edition) or Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful. Be sure to send me a link to your review so that I can link it from here. Thanks!

The Romanian cybercrime city
I found this article about a Romanian town where “cybercrime” rules pretty interesting. Not sure who sent it to me, sorry and thanks for sharing, whoever you are!

Pixelfari is awfully cool
What would Safari look like if it existed back in the Apple II days? Like this, and you can try it yourself. Might not be the new primary browser, but damn cool at least.

Lendle is a lovely concept
I have no idea how and if Lendle works, but I love the concept. Lend and borrow Kindle books, preferably mine!

Taking the internet for granted
Something struck me as I nervously paced the room, trying not to curse too much while waiting for a bunch of important files to leave my outbox.
I’m taking the internet for granted.
Or rather, I’m taking a solid and at least somewhat fast internet connection for granted.
Working from the French Alps puts it into perspective. It’s easy to come to terms with lousy connectivity and speed in developing countries, but in the heart of Europe? How can they live like this?
They can because they have to.
Back home I’ve got a 100 Mbit connection and file size isn’t an issue.
Here, sending a 2 MB file is something scary.
Food for thought for all us web workers, that’s for sure.
