  • 38

I don’t celebrate my birthday, which doesn’t seem to stop the people around me but there you go. Arbitrary dates and all that, and also I’m not a big fan of being in the centre of things, not in that particular context at least.

Some people write really nice and insightful wrap-up pieces about their year and publish these on their birthdays. I like to read those, but I can’t bring myself to do the same. Very little in my life revolves around my age, but I guess it is a wasted opportunity, for the retrospection if nothing else.

38 years, and counting. Yeah. Peace out.

  • Repacking

The day is on its final hours end here in Stockholm, where I’m packing again. I arrived from Zürich this evening, and have had time to eat and unpack but that’s about it. I’ll be on the road again tomorrow, by train going north. Packing this time is basically just swapping laundry for clean clothes, hang the suits, switch to a backpack, and then I’m good to go again. Oh, and I’m trying to sort out my trip to Italy next weekend while I’m doing this. Racking up the flight miles, that’s for sure.

  • Meetings and food, on repeat

Zürich is treating me well. I’ve had good meetings, and good food. More of that today, I hope.

For the gadgetry inclined, I can report that my iPad Pro has served me well, despite squeezing in some development and even a touch of design on this trip. I’m not surprised, it’s my preferred computer after all, but it’s always interesting to not have access to the Macbook Pro for the heavy lifting.

  • Grey and glum

Zürich is grey and glum this morning. Here’s hoping the weather will change for the better. Got a little taste of spring yesterday and now I crave more. I had forgotten what sunshine feels like. Looking forward to starting the project here, and to see more of the city.

Made progress on the Ashen Sky translation, which I haven’t touched for weeks, on the flight down yesterday. Just the last part to go. The translation will be done during Easter at the latest, that’s my deadline and you can hold me to it. In fact, please do.

  • Back to Zürich

Today is a travel day. I’m off to Zürich again, to start up the project we signed last time I was there. It’s a restaurant website and booking system, so I’ll have the incredibly heavy chore of scouting the competition as well. However will I manage…

The taxi’s here. See you on the flipside.

  • A sandwich only Swedes can understand

Today is all about admin and getting stuff sorted, things I’ve neglected during the week. I’ve got some small things I promised friends I’d fix, some stuff for myself, writing obviously, and packing to do for tomorrow’s trip to Zürich.

It’s a sunny day in Stockholm though, so I’ll start with taking my (borrowed) mother-in-law to breakfast at a nearby coffee shop. I can already taste the leverpastejmacka…

  • One of those days

It’s been one of those days where the work never stopped, the errands took over, and thank whatever godlike being you choose to rely on that there’s wine and good company. So cheers, and enjoy your weekend.

  • Dog on carpet

Stockholm is sunny today, you could always fool yourself that spring is around the corner. Walking the dog through the icy parks will burst that bubble though. Busy day, so I’ll leave you with a tired Paazu on the carpet at the office. He’s happy with the attention.

  • Bring your dog to work day

Finally, a full night’s sleep! Anyone remotely close to me at work yesterday knew I needed that.

It’s bring your dog to work day today, by which I mean that I get to bring Paazu (pictured yesterday) to the office because that’s what I’m going to do. This isn’t the best idea, that dog has a tendency of disrupting work. Yep, he’s that cute, albeit not the least cuddly with strangers.

  • Discharge

It’s way too early on yet another coffee shop, this a more traditional one where I feel quite at home. I have a ton of things to do this morning so here are a few photos of Paazu on the rug in my Stockholm apartment. He loves it, but it does make his fur static so there are some weird little electric discharges going on. Poor thing.

  • Hey look, a new bag

Some might say I have a bag problem, while others will add that yes, you do, but you also have a headphone problem. I’d dispute this, but that’d fall to deaf ears, so I’ll just own it, I guess.

The Axial Messenger from the sadly defunct Modern Industry has been my daily I just need a small bag for my iPad and some stuff driver for a long time. It worked great when iPads were smaller, but the 10” iPad Pro in its sleeve with the Pencil is a bit tricky to get out easily, so I’ve been on the lookout for something new. Enter Peg and Awl, and their Hunters Satchel, which Warren Ellis pointed me to in his excellent newsletter. The Hunters Satchel is a somewhat pricy piece of craftsmanship that I immediately fell in love with, from the story behind the sling, to the superb quality. Read about it on Peg and Awl’s site.

The setup is updated accordingly, with this and many other things. Yes, headphones too. Shut up.

  • Driving day

The day will be spent in the car, driving to Stockholm. Here’s hoping Paazu will be as cool as he is in the photo below. He doesn’t like riding the car though, so we’ll see. Trying something new this time, hopefully that’ll mean a more enjoyable trip for all of us.

  • Dozing

Been dozing most of the day. Late night with lots of discussions and whisky, and then the sleep debt – which I’m not sure is an actual thing – on top of that. Let’s just say I needed the rest, and leave it at that.

Unfortunately it does mean that I’ll have to spend my evening cleaning the house, doing laundry, and packing. Driving to Stockholm early tomorrow morning. Here’s hoping the winds will calm down a bit by then. It sure doesn’t sound like it at the moment though.

  • Waves inbound

The trip south went well, although it was pretty bumpy on the way down. Today is windy with nice waves, so if you’re following my Instagram (or my Twitter, I guess) you’ll no doubt get a photo or two from the seaside.

Lots to do today, including nurturing what’s left of whatever strain of the plague I’ve carried with me the last few weeks, so that’s it. Have a great Friday, folks!

  • Packed for travel

I’m well enough to travel, so that’s what I’m doing later today. Southbound again, will stay there for a few days before we head back to Stockholm by car. Some dog logistics to work out, and the weather will have its say as well. It all feels very hectic at the moment, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.
