Stuff I fit in my headphone case

My over-ear headphones of choice currently is the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless. They’re tight over the ears, more so than a lot of people like, and feature neither phone features nor noise-cancellation. I like them for the raw sound quality, especially when listening to classic rock, as well as how they block out most of the world without ruining the sound with white noise.

The P5 Wireless come in a little case or bag, containing a micro USB charging cable and a headphone cable if you’re out of battery or just want to go analog. What they probably didn’t know when they designed said bag was that it would be perfect to store some other everyday items I need when I travel.

Stuff currently in my headphone case when traveling

The actual bag is to the left, black and soft with an even softer inside to protect the headphones. It has a magnet lock that is just right in terms of strength.

Other than the P5 Wireless headphones, pictured on the upper right, I fit a Kindle Oasis (center), an Apple Pencil (between the Kindle and the headphones), as well as a cleaning cloth (lower right). The two black cables are micro-USB for charging and the aforementioned headphone cable for analog listening, with a Lightning adapter should I need one. Finally, I have a spare Lightning to USB cable in there, because why not?

All that in a headphone bag. It could fit more, I’ve been known to carry extra cash, passport, and travel documents in it too. It’s a spacious bag, without being too big for its primary purpose. I want to protect my headphones when I’m traveling, the headphone bag lives in whatever primary bag I have, but being able to stick these other little things in there is very useful. When I get on the plane, for example, I’ll just bring the headphone bag to my seat – it contains everything I’ll need.

Small things like this makes travel easier. Maybe you have something similar that you’d like to share? Let @tdh know on Twitter, I love to hear about stuff like this.

  • Seven things I enjoy, early March 2017

Seven things I enjoy, early March 2017

I’m bringing back a revamped list of things I like series. Every now and then, I’ll post seven things I enjoy, and hopefully that’ll help you find something you like as well. Pretty simple, right?

Oh, and links down here might be affiliate links, should you decide to pick something up. That’ll earn me a small commission, which is nice since it can help feed my book consumption. Seriously, it’s out of hand…

Without further ado, and in no particular order, here’s the list.

    • Nintendo Switch, because damn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (which is also available for Wii U) is so bloody good it’s ridiculous. I have high hopes for the console as well, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 were both great fun at the pre-launch event, but I want more.
    • Ulysses is my current offline writing app of choice, but I must also mention BlankPage which has some pretty cool stuff coming up. How do I know that? Well, I’m involved, that’s how.
    • Being a columnist again. I’ve been busy with other things for a couple of years, but I’m back writing columns (currently weekly at Di Digital, in Swedish I’m afraid).
    • Shattered Sea trilogy, by Joe Abercrombie, is shaping up nicely. The first book, Half a King, was good but I think I’m enjoying Half the World  even more. Here’s hoping Half a War is just as good.
    • Reading on Kindle Oasis is such a great experience, a beautiful albeit overpriced e-reader, that. I’ve been testing a few different ones lately, it really does stand out. On a budget? Get the latest Paperwhite, it’s great too.
    • Taking notes with Apple Pencil. I’m not sure if this will stick or not, but Pencil and an app like GoodNotes is a really powerful tool. More on that later.
    • The whiteboard. Yes, whiteboards carry with them a very office-like feeling, but when I’m wrestling with a concept or an idea, the space and the overview truly helps. When I get my own castle, I’ll have a whiteboard wall. For now, I’ll have to make due with the one at Odd Alice.

What have you been enjoying lately? Any of these things, any others? Tell @tdh on Twitter, I’d love to know.

  • Apple's September 9 event

Speaking of Apple’s event and their new products, here are my takeaway thoughts.

    • I will buy an iPad Pro. The iPad is, alongside the iPhone, my favorite device to work on. It’ll be interesting to see what the larger form factor will do to that.
    • The Smart Keyboard looks alright, I’ll pick one up since I’m a sucker for things like that, but I don’t expect to use it much. As I wrote in The Writer’s iPad, one of the strengths of writing on an iPad is that it’s not connected to the keyboard, and you can position it any way you like.
    • I doubt the Apple Pencil will make me use a stylus more, but it does look promising. I’m having a hard time fitting Paper’s and Wacom’s alternatives into my workflow, so I’m skeptical.
    • The Apple TV could be huge. It could change home gaming completely, especially if the games carry across all iOS devices. It’s too early to tell, but I must say I’m excited about the new Apple TV.
    • And I’ll get a new iPhone 6S Plus, I think. 3D Touch looks really promising. I haven’t regretted switching to a new iPhone model yet, and I doubt that’ll change.

All in all, a pretty nice Apple event. They’re all doing their thing, selling their brand, so well now. I’m happy to not only see white men on stage as well, although there’s still ample room for improvement. You can watch it all for yourself on Apple’s site, which is preferable from reading these posts.
